FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Hi Charlie…
Thanks for sending the large less than traditional kit to my sisters in Vermont this week! It arrived yesterday and they’re excited. We were talking on the phone and comparing notes. It seems that the kit that I bought from gypsy quilter (at the Melbourne show last week) had a green plastic arc – about 7 to 8 inches long. This wasn’t in the kit that my sisters got and we wondered if it was maybe an ‘extra’ from the Gypsy Quilter, or if it’s something that should have been in the kit that went to my sisters? Is it something that they can get at one or their local shops??
Thanks for your information and help in this matter!! Beth Davie

Hello Beth,
Gypsy Quilter includes this with with the Large Set and does adjust the price accordingly. They are cutting arcs and the price is $5.29 each. They can be purchased by phone or through the website. Thanks Again, "Charlie"

Thanks so much, Charlie!! After searching your website, I found them and thought that to be the case. As soon as my one sister gets back to Florida, we’ll order the set that you have and probably a few other items, too.
Your responses are fantastic, too, by the way!! Just makes me want to keep shopping and shopping!! *smile*

Charlie,
Missed you - glad to hear that you were feeling better.. and should be even better by this time!! Raylene did a SUPER job.. but it just wasn't the same without YOU!! Raylene kept us quiet with the lollipops!! LOL!!
Thank you for the info.. my sister and I sat down and realized I DID have the flannel book.. we thought we had it figured out..
We had the front panels all the same fabric... 8.5 yards.. then using 4 fabric colors on the back.. we figured 16 blocks of each color.. x 14" = 224" divided by 3 per cut would equal 2.5 per color (there would be some left over..)?
IF we don't layer flannel in the center.. can one use batting?
Thank you!! Gaye

Hello Gaye,
Twin = 60"x 76" = 7 circles times 9 circles= 8 1/2 yds each 2 fabrics King =96" x 104" = 132 circles 11x12 circles = 17 1/4 yds each 2 fabrics.
I wasn't there this year. But, I heard from Raylene & Ron several times about the brownies etc. We see a lot of people, but, we don't forget our friends!!! Charlie

Dear Charlie,
i recently purchased the "less than traditional" dvd as it has been a few years since i saw you at the sewing expo in novi, mi. there i was able to see you demonstrate the technique in-person . i realize that you girls are busy with your show schedule. please refresh my memory. i have all of my circles finished, but i took your advice and started with a four-block unit only. guess what..........it ended up with a window in the middle! i know what i did wrong, but i don't know how to fix it.
i forgot your instructions on marking the square at the center of the circle. how far do the points/90 degree angles extend? i would really appreciate your advice.
thank you. maggie

If you have finished with a hole...........hopefully you have only done 1 unit of 4. Because you will have to take the unit of 4 apart & resew!
After sewing units of 2 take the ruler, center the ((line) on the seam line. Then, push the ruler slightly past the point of the wedge (approx. 1/16th"). Check back, make sure the line on the ruler is still directly over the seam line.
Don't sew through the point of the wedge!
Keep on Quilting, Charlie

dear Charlie,
thank you for your help. i want you to know that the dvd arrived about three days after i ordered it and it only took me about ten minutes to discover my error.
when done correctly, it really is quick and easy!
thanks, again. maggie

Years ago I met Charlene Bement at a show and purchased NINE IN THE WINDOW (And More)8 1/2" templates. I know I purchased the pattern also but for the life of me I can't find it. Can you tell me if it was renamed Goes Around Comes Around Twisting? If so I will just order myself another one so I have the pattern and know how to use the templates. Please let me know.

Gloria: Hi it's been a long time Nine In The Window, 25 years or so ago. Anyway, I'm sending you the current pattern because eof slight changes (it is the same one by the way)!.If it's ok I will follow up with you by phone in a week or so, just to check and see if any questions have arisen. Thanks!!! Charlie

Charlie - that would be great!!! Some things just never get tossed out as you can tell - especially something wonderful having to do with quilting. I made so many quilts from the pattern and that template one would think I would know it by heart but many years have passed and the memory fades. I'm not a template person but because of the simplicity of that pattern - I made at least 20 quilts and even made one for my 6 lb Maltese out of flannels.
I'm so anxious to get it - got my fabric all ready. Very grateful your name/address was on the template - it at least gave me a starting place to look for you.
Thank you so very much - will send you a picture when completed. Gloria Uehlein

I took the mini class at the San Mateo show last Thursday. I bought the medium and large circle sets. I am very interested in making the flower petals like lily or poinsettias. I just purchased the book on flowers but I am concerned about how difficult it might be? Can a beginner do the flowers? Also, I got the larger ruler. Is it good for the medium pattern to cut the slits for turning? Thank You.

Hi Terri: Yes indeed the large ruler will show you where to cut on the medium pattern, and don't worry, yes beginners can do flowers just follow the instructions. And by the way thanks for your order of the large ruler that was mailed yesterday, we certainly appreciate your patronage and don't forget to tell your family and friends about us. Thanks again. Charlie

Thanks for your reply and nice to meet you Charlie. Loved your CD and it was extremely helpful to understant the process. I love your sassy personality. You remind me of myself. When my girlfriends ask me why do I have to do it that way. I always say, "Because I said so."... Take care, Terri

I am trying to make the poinsettia runner. My maching is not strong enough to go through all the layers. I have a small brother sewing machine. Any suggestions.
Thanks, Shirley

Hi Cheryl: Yes that can happen, be sure the you are not pushing the material through while sewing, the fabric should be nice and flat!  If you still have a problem, try setting your machine to a bigger stitch, that should do it. Thanks for your inquiry always feel free to send in a question!! "Charlie"
